Jean-Yves began his musical journey at the age of four by learning the piano, then fell in love with the classical guitar at twelve thanks to Carlos Marin his first teacher, thanks to whom he won a prize for excellence.
After his music baccalaureate, Jean-Yves Casala worked with some fine Spanish masters of the guitar: Ramon Cueto, at the National Conservatory, thanks to whom he obtained the gold medal, then with Alberto Ponce at the École Normal of Music of Paris where the panel unanimously awarded him the prestigious Concert Award.
Jean-Yves Casala, who is a Regional Arts Teacher , holder of the State Diploma and of Diplomas in Chamber Music, Music Education, Sight reading and Composition, divides his time between his pupils and performing.
He has given concerts in Paris – in La Madeleine, Salle Cortot, la Sainte Chapelle, Carnavalet Museum, Hôtel de Soubise, St Ephrem Church …and at the festivals of Montmartre, Niort, Mandres les roses, in the cathedrals of Albi, Montpellier, Saint Jean de Luz, Toulouse, Auch, Aix en Provence … as well as in Europe – Portugal, Czechoslovakia (Prague), Greece… and across the Atlantic in Canada, either giving recitals or playing chamber music (with cello, flute, violin , oboe, voice …) or as a soloist accompanied by an Orchestra performing the concertos of Antonio Vivaldi or those of Joaquin Rodrigo, including the famous “Concierto d’Aranjuez” which he performs frequently throughout France.
A very eclectic musician, Jean-Yves Casala is not limited to a specific style or period; he likes to explore all types of work as long as they are of quality. (He has brought out two CDs – one dedicated to A. Vivaldi with orchestra, concerti and continuo of The Four Seasons and the other to Egberto Gismonti (published by ECM ).
His sensitive and passionate playing places him among the most convincing guitarists of his generation.
